Subject:Tiger Lillies Playing Gorey Tracks in NYC, Ohio, LA, SF, and Seattle
Time:12:20 pm
Longtime watcher, first time poster, etc.

Shortly before his passing Edward Gorey mailed a box of his unfinished stories to the UK trio the Tiger Lillies, who then adapted some of the stories into song and put out the album The Gorey End. Old news,
except The Tiger Lillies are doing a short US tour this autumn that will be a "Songs of Shockheaded Peter and Other Gory Verses production." This means it will feature songs from the Shockheaded Peter album they did based on the work of Heinrich Hoffmann (which will no doubt also appeal to a lot of Gorey fans) and also tracks from the aforementioned Gorey End album.:

The band is certainly not for everyone, but they're one of my favorites and this is a very rare opportunity for we yanks to see them live. The full list of dates and locales are here on their website. Below are a pair of videos I found of Gorey tracks, the first with Kronos Quartet accompanying them and the latter a variation of a track that they did for the Culture Show on BBC2.

Subject:Gorey and Aickman
Time:08:34 pm
it makes sense that Gorey would illustrate some of Robert Aickman's book covers. having recently read a fair dollop of the latter's work, i suggest that Aickman's short stories are about as close as one can get in modern fiction to the feeling of an Edward Gorey illustration. my personal suggestion would be to pick up the book "The Wine Dark Sea" and start with the story "The Trains", then read the rest. after that, you should grab Painted Devils and Cold Hand In Mine, both of which feature Gorey on their covers....

Subject:An advert for my new, yet old group...
Time:04:35 pm
Having a hard time finding steampunk or dark cabaret bands?  I know I am.  For one, MySpace is a menace to me, as much as a joy.  Perhaps others have experienced my plight.

I would like to introduce you to steampunkmusic , my new group.  I created this group in order to keep up with the large advent of dark cabaret, steampunk, gypsy punk and countless other subgenres.   I would like it to clear up confusion on where to find steampunk music. If you are in a band of any genre like this, please add yourself to the friends list, so people can find you.

Feel free to join and post anything as long as it has to do with these genres of music.  I am pretty liberal with what you can post.

Thanks!

While reading The Elephant House, I noticed a quote from a piece that Mr. Gorey did in the 1970s for The National Lampoon. It had a gay spin, but no image of the drawing! It nearly drove me crazy. So I paid like $30 to buy a copy of the magazine from a collector, just to get this image.
